History

The Sheffield Design Awards were set up in 2008 by the Sheffield Civic Trust to recognise exceptional contributions to our built environment. Set up during a time of significant regeneration, the awards aimed to encourage the highest standards and quality of design in the built environment.

The Awards began with just three categories, including the Citizens Award, and have been held every two years since 2008 (with the exception of 2020). As the South Yorkshire region moves through another period of regeneration and growth, the Awards too have grown and now include 13 categories, including the Landmark Award and Practice of the Year.
