South Yorkshire Institute of Technology at the Barnsley College University Centre - Race Cottam Architects
A new chapter for a Barnsley landmark.
Race Cottam Architects have transformed the town’s 1932 Mining and Technical College into a contemporary centre for engineering, construction and digital education, carefully retaining the character of its Art Deco architecture.
At its heart, a once-neglected courtyard has been transformed into a light-filled, three-storey Learning Resource Centre, reconnecting the building and creating a new social heart for students.
90 years on, a place built for technical education is teaching the next generation.
