Heart of the City 2 Masterplan - Leonard Design and Sheffield City Council
Winner of the Outstanding Project of the Year at the 2024 Awards
A unanimous decision from the judges, the Heart of the City 2 project, led by Sheffield City Council, has transformed the city centre whilst retaining the existing streets and historic buildings of quality. The judges recognise that the local authority took the opportunity of the failed Sevenstones scheme to go back to local people and local practices to consult on what could be done much, much better. And then did it.
The judges were particularly impressed with the generosity of public spaces, including Pound’s Park, Cambridge Street Collective and Leah’s Yard as well as the refurbishment of the Victorian building facing the Peace Gardens for the Radisson Blu Hotel.
The quality of the public realm, with high quality materials, planting and flood mitigation are world class.
